“Undeniably Donnie”

Presented by Single Lock Records

Few songwriters from the 20th century lived as charmed and cherished a life as Donnie Fritts. As the longtime keyboardist in Kris Kristofferson’s band, the so-called “Alabama Leaning Man” wrote songs that epitomized Muscle Shoals, became a regular in Sam Pekinpah films, and influenced some of the era’s greatest performers. In commemoration of one of his final albums, 1504 followed Donnie’s return to the studio from the perspectives of his longtime collaborators, including Willie Nelson, John Prine, T. Bone Burnett, Jason Isbell, and narration from Kristofferson. Since Donnie’s passing in 2019, the film has become even more symbolic of those Southern musicians who blended soul and country to defy what many thought was possible.
