Healthcare is at a generational intersection.
Despite scientific advancements and attempts to broaden insurance coverage, the experience of providing and receiving care is still filled with barriers, often as a result of the very technology that aims to help.
athenahealth aims to cure this complexity by connecting the disparate players in the industry — from providers to administrators, patients to payers — to support a thriving ecosystem that delivers accessible, high-quality, and sustainable healthcare for all.
Since 2018, 1504 has worked alongside athenahealth’s brand and communications teams as a narrative partner to hone its point-of-view, both internally and externally, around its approach to improving healthcare. Our messaging framework has helped the organization express a consistent narrative through years of policy changes, industry conferences, acquisitions, rebrands, and a global pandemic.

“Where Innovation Begins”
Tech companies talk about innovation all the time, but rarely do you hear actual examples. We collaborated with athenahealth’s editorial strategy team on a campaign to assert its thought leadership around what innovation in healthcare really means.
“Thriving on the Frontlines”
COVID-19 exposed the fragility and inefficiency of our healthcare system, but it also reminded us of the courage and ingenuity of care providers. This series explored urban and rural stories of frontline workers navigating uncharted territory.
“why athenahealth?”
To broaden its call to action, 1504 produced a national campaign to recruit the problem-solvers behind the care providers — coders, developers, and programmers who impact millions of lives through technology but haven’t always been recognized for their societal impact. We established a 400+ image library of editorial, lifestyle, and portrait photography of athenahealth’s team nationwide, along with a series of eight short films.

We want to focus on how we're connecting the ecosystem — being able to tell a story about how we bring together all the different partners. But the challenge is how do you visualize it? I think it's really going to be tangible when you tell it through the problems that are encountered in healthcare every day for everyone.
